Weather Conditions Improve in South Africa Flood Situation

Kruger National Park, South Africa — Crocodile Bridge Gate in the Kruger National Park (KNP) will reopen, following an improvement in severe weather conditions across parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.

In a media release issued on Wednesday, South African National Parks (SANParks) said the reopening comes after heavy rainfall and flooding disrupted operations in the park. However, authorities warned that the situation remains dynamic, as a dam wall outside the park has been reported to be compromised.

“This may change operational conditions at short notice, including access through Crocodile Bridge Gate,” SANParks said.

Meanwhile, all gravel roads are said to remain closed until further notice, and visitors have been strongly urged not to remove barricades placed at closed gates or restricted roads.

SANParks stressed that the barriers are in place for public safety and to protect park infrastructure.

Visitors have also been requested to take their waste with them when leaving the park, as operations are still under pressure following the recent flooding.

While Crocodile Bridge Gate reopens, Malelane, Numbi, and Paul Kruger gates remain open under an entry quota system. Phabeni Gate remains closed.

The park’s southern and northern sections remain cut off from each other, meaning Tshokwane Picnic Site, Satara Rest Camp, and the northern regions of the park are currently inaccessible.

SANParks said it continues to monitor the situation closely and will communicate any changes as conditions evolve. Visitors have been urged to strictly follow all instructions and signage for their own safety.
