Touring Rag… Farm in admiration in, Goromonzi on Friday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Professor Obert Jiri confirmed the numbers saying that the 2030 target will be reached in no time without doubt”The industry is projected to reach  USD 2 billion by 2030 , with irrigated horticulture expected to grow to  30,000 hectares—a nearly 300% increase from current levels.” Currently, the country has approximately 218,000 hectares under irrigation , with 10,000 to 15,000 hectares  allocated to horticulture. As the government scales up its efforts, this figure is set to rise significantly,” he said. The Presidential Rural Development Programme, which aims to establish village business units in all 35,000 villages, is a major catalyst. This initiative alone is expected to add another 35,000 hectares to horticulture, further accelerating the sector’s expansion.Prof Jiri also reiterated that Zimbabwe is already making strides in key high-value crops such as blueberries, avocados, and other fruits. “The country now ranks first in Africa and fifth globally  in blueberry production and is 20th in the world for avocados. The  increasing investment and government support, Zimbabwe’s horticulture industry is poised to become a major driver   economic growth, export earnings, and national food security as the country works toward vision 2030, ” he said.
